Temporal editing
Definition:
Editing can control the flow of time in a film.
Uses:
Flashbacks, the sequencing of events, duration of events and changes in timescales within the film are achieved through temporal editing.
For example, action sequences often expand the amount of time, to create tension, whilst the movie as a whole has greatly condensed time.
The classic example: the hero has only 10 seconds to defuse a ticking bomb in a scene which, with editing, may take several minutes of screen time.
