Storyboarding
Definition:
A storyboard is a shot-by-shot hand-sketching out of the film. It can be very detailed or quite schematic.
Role:
Its purpose is to build a visual sense of the action prior to shooting and to establish that the proposed shot structure will deliver the sequences necessary for the whole narrative to work.
Storyboarding is also used for very complicated sets and special effects sequences, to help establish the final do-ability and cost.
The storyboard below is for the animation at right.
