Shot
Just as prose has identifiable building blocks, such as word, phrase, sentence, paragraph, story, so too film has identifiable units of meaning.
These are: frame, shot, scene, act, movie.
A shot is a unit of meaning that is an uninterrupted sequence of frames.
Each shot on its own is as useful as a phrase on its own.
When strung together within the correct order, shots produce a larger unit of meaning.
This section looks at the different shot types available to the filmmaker.
