The location or setting

Definition:

The locations or settings of the film refer to where the film is set and where it will be shot.

Role:

Often there is an element of the film that is set inside (i.e. in a house, in an office, in a pub). In these instances it is usual for these interiors to be duplicated within a film studio, as a set.

This is done for ease of camera, lighting and sound control and for proximity to services.

On some occasions, a producer may choose to shoot the entire film on location, meaning that, as well as all exteriors being where the film is set, all interiors are also shot in the actual location.
