Shot/Reverse shot
Definition:
The use of three shots edited together to show both sides of a conversation or action sequence between characters.
A shot/reverse shot sequence is made up of a master shot, a shot and its reverse shot.
Usually one character is facing to the left and the other to the right.
Uses:
SW Typically used in most sequences of dialogue.
A scene will be shot from three perspectives: one perspective framing both characters together (the master shot), a second shot framing only one character from the other's perspective and a third shot framing the other character from the reverse point of view.
The scene will then be edited, using a combination of the three shots to create a logical structure.
