Editor
Definition:
The editor is responsible for taking all of the individual shots and building them into the sequences that will create the narrative of the film as a cohesive and comprehensible whole.
Role:
Normally the director will have shot each scene with a wide shot and then a series of close-ups and reverses (see Shot types). Each scene, depending on how it has been constructed as a whole, could suggest a particular resonance or tone. It is the job of the editor, with the director and the producer, to construct each scene to create a sequence and then a whole narrative that best matches the intent of the director.
