Follow these steps to create a site using Macromedia DREAMWEAVER. For easy creation of interactive lessons using preprepared templates click here and click Creating Interactive Lessons.

  1. Create site folder (rename with a short name, lowercase, no spaces). This will be your Local Root Folder that contains your entire site.
  2. Open your site folder and create a new folder called images. Make sure images that you have previously created or collected are moved into this folder.
  3. In your site folder, create a new folder called assets. Make sure any documents you wish to use are stored inside this folder.
  4. Start Dreamweaver Program
Look at the interface. Figure 1-6: Panels in Dreamweaver.
  1. From Site, choose Manage Sites

Dreamweaver menus.

Click New and select Site.

The Manage Sites dialog box.
Give Site Name (short name, lowercase, no spaces, using same as site folder)
The Manage Sites dialog box.2

Browse for your Local Root Folder and images folder

Save the new page (currently untitled document) as - index.htm

  1. If you are creating many pages and want to use the same style for each, save this page as a site template.
  2. Layout your page using tables.
  3. Insert images - saves to assets folder, right click inserted image and select Optimise in Fireworks…, and resize image and choose suitable resolution. Update and then resize image properties in Dreamweaver.
  4. Add text (you may copy and paste from Word etc).
  5. Save (control S) and preview in browser – F12
  6. Decide on where to place links to other pages using images or text.
  7. Create additional pages with same design as home page. Names must be in lower case and as short as possible, with no spaces.
  8. Continually save and view in browser.
